Support for depression

Lean to cope and recover from depression with support
Depression is one of the hardest things to experience in one’s life because of how absolutely hopeless it makes a person feel.  Not only does depression take over a person at a very difficult time in their life, but depression makes it so it is almost impossible to make yourself happy once again.  It drains one’s emotions to the extent where all you feel is pain, sadness, and sorrow.  It makes one feel as if they are living underground in a big deep hole, or it makes them wish they were.
Depression is normally triggered by a hardship in one’s life, whether it is a loss of a loved one or just continued mental stress, depression always comes when a person it at their lowest point in life, and it takes them even lower.  There are very important essential steps a person should take when suffering from depression, and friends and family that care sincerely about the person should support them and help them in every way that they can.
Most importantly the depressed individual needs to believe in him or herself.  In order to do this they need to be involved in something greater than them, something that will make them feel better about themselves.  The depressed person should try and volunteer and help out in any way they can.  A place where they can help people in a greater need than themselves is ideal.  But, it is essential that they person does not forget about themselves, they are in need to, and they need to care of themselves before they can take care of others.
The next step is for the people surrounding the depressed person.  All friends and family members should be involved in helping the depressed person recover from their depression.  They must encourage the depressed person to get involved in activities they enjoy.  Force them out of the house, offer them incentives, make them go out and enjoy themselves; it is very important for their recovery.  Be positive when talking to them, use supportive positive words and avoid negative words.
Another positive support for people suffering from depression is support groups.  Support groups are great for depressed people because they can share their stories, theories, and help on another cope and get passed their depression.  This is a place for them to feel comfortable because everyone else has and is going through the same problems, so there is no judging, just empathy.
A more one on one support is getting a psychologist or psychiatrist.  These professionals are trained to help people suffering from depression.  The professionals can offer support and advice to help the individual learn the causes of their depression and what he or she can do about it.  Psychiatrist can also provide a different type of support, medication.  Medications can be used to balance the chemicals in the brain so they are able to get past their depression easier.
The best key is the depressed people themselves.  In order to cure depression, they must be willing to help themselves and want a better life for themselves.  They will need help with this due to their low-esteem, so make sure the person suffering from depression always has a strong support system including all of the above.
